CURRENT PROJECTS

At Swarovski Optik we place a high value on dealing respectfully with nature and its fauna, and its conservation. Active nature conservation and species protection is deeply embedded in our corporate philosophy. We make a considerable contribution towards the preservation of habitats and the protection of endangered animal species by initiating and/or participating in nature conservation and species protection projects in addition to partnerships with selected organisations.

We would like to introduce you to our commitment to nature conservation and species protection in the following section on the basis of selected projects that are currently being implemented.

Help for the Sociable Lapwing
As a “Species Champion” Swarovski Optik supports together with the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) the BirdLife International “Preventing Extinction Programme”. As so far the only manufacturer of optical instruments, Swarovski Optik provides at least for the next 3 years lasting support for a new programme for the protection of endangered bird species by sponsoring the Sociable Lapwing.
Srebarna/Bulgaria
With a wingspan of over three metres, the majestic Dalmatian pelican is one of Europes largest birds, but it is seriously threatened with extinction.
Karsiborska Kepa/Poland
A great example of Swarovski-style nature conservation is the 300-hectare island of Karsiborska Kepa in the northwest of Poland.

In the case of the Canary Island Houbara bustard, this is an endangered sub-species, whose habitat is restricted to plains, steppes and semi-desert on two of the Canary Islands (Lanzarote und Fuerteventura).
Observatory on the Ebro delta/Spain
Swarovski Optik has built an observatory in the Riet Vell nature reserve on the Ebro delta in Spain.

One of the most enchanting waterfowl refuges of the world, a Ramsar site and a World Heritage Site, Keoladeo National Park (KNP) is home to rich biological diversity.
Black Rhinoceros/Namibia
Almost exterminated by poachers, the black rhino is still in serious danger of extinction.
Bearded Vulture/Alps
The last bearded vulture in the Austrian Hohe Tauern mountains was shot dead in 1880.
