This is necessary particularly for observation at close range. High-quality binoculars have close focusing of less than 2 m.

Dejustierung
Dioptric compensation
The compensation of varying visual acuity in each eye. The exception here is severe astigmatism (irregular curvature of the cornea)
Distortion
This is a term that is frequently used in lens diagrams in order to gain an indication of the curvature of the image displayed. There is positive
distortion
= pincushion, and negative
distortion
= barrel. The ideal would be to have no
distortion
at all.

Field of view
The value shows how many metres of a section of the terrain can be surveyed at a distance of 1 km. Today this information is often also shown in degrees; this then refers to the objective aperture.
Fokussierung
HD
In units with the
HD
(high definition) designation, a glass which undergoes a particularly sophisticated and complex machining process is used in the objective lens. As a result, even the very small remnants of chromatic zonal aberrations are prevented and the image is reproduced with even greater colour fidelity.
HD
is not a specific term and is frequently used incorrectly. Simply using
HD
lenses alone is not a guarantee for better image quality. For this, the whole optical concept must be fine-tuned.
Innenfokussierung
Interpupillary distance
Is the distance between the eyes measured from the centre of one pupil to the centre of the other and is usually shown in mm.

Magnesium housing
Nowadays, magnesium housings are used more frequently as they are lighter in weight than aluminium housings.

Overtravel
Is the description for the range which, linked with the focusing range of the lens, can be helpful particularly for short-sighted people up to 4 dpt. They then have the opportunity to focus the image even on subjects at long range.

Pupil size
The pupil size of the human eye depends on age and the available light. The more light available, the smaller the size of the pupil. The pupil opens to its maximum size in poor light conditions. The possible dilation range in a 25-year old extends from approx. 2 mm to approx. 8 mm. From the age of 50 onwards, the average maximum pupil size possible is only up to 5 mm. This should be taken into account when buying binoculars for observing at dusk and should be compared to the corresponding exit pupil.

Spectacle wearers eyepiece
Eyepieces with a large gap between the last lens and the exit pupil (pupil of the eye). Spectacle wearers can make use of up to 100% of the full field of view by lowering the eyecups.
Spring loading system
P series only Only Swarovski rifle scopes are equipped with the patented Swarovski spring loading system which guarantees ultra-precise adjustment turrets.
SSA
Snap Shot Adapter, this enables adaptation of specific digital cameras for use with binoculars.
STM
Straight Telescope Magnesium
STS
Straight Telescope Short
SWAROBRIGHT
SWAROCLEAN
Swaroclean
is a coating which reduces the energy on the surface of the outer lenses and thus makes cleaning considerably easier.
SWARODUR
SWAROFAST
Thanks to the innovative
SWAROFAST
function, you only need to adjust the position of your camera once in relation to your spotting scope. After this you can remove the camera from the adapter and bring it back into exactly the same position later without any need for readjustment.

Twist-in eyecups
Are predominantly necessary for spectacle wearers in order to compensate the distance between eye and spectacle lens. In the ideal case, the twist-in eyecups can also be unscrewed completely to enable easier cleaning.
